A surprising number of our design solutions have combined a tight integration of optics, electronics and firmware. These have ranged in complexity, but can be summarized as follows.
An instrument that runs 24/7, that utilizes different wavelength solid state lasers. Photo multiplier tubes are used to detect reflection from the product being tested. The product, small particulate traveling very fast, may contain defects. The Photomultipliers are connected to our custom circuit board, containing multiple Digital Signal Processing chips, maintaining a capability to measure > 1 million defects / second!
A small portable battery instrument for counterfeit detection. The device uses led's dichromic mirrors, prisms and detectors. The on board DSP looks at ratio of intensities, and other characteristics. Counterfeit OEM parts is a big problem, and this device is keeping our customer one step ahead. The included display provides verification right at the scene, and inbuilt data-logger with USB connectivity provides evidence for possible action.
A multi threadlike instrument, that monitors eight yarn threads traveling in excess of 3000 meters / minute. Use of low cost LED's coupled to the product by fiber optic cables and self cleaning sapphire windows keeps maintenance to a minimum. The optics sit in a hot, dusty, and oily environment. These devices have been running 24/7 for over 15 years!
